At his 132nd attempt, Mark Webber secured his maiden pole position on Saturday, beating Rubens Barrichello to the best time in a chaotic weather-affected qualifying session in Germany.
"It was very, very chaotic so to deliver a time when it counted was very important to me," said the 32-year-old Red Bull driver.
His teammate Sebastian Vettel, 3.5 points ahead of him in the drivers' championship, qualified just fifth.
